Hiya! Ems here. I've been dog grooming for years now, and I love it. I'm very passionate about what I do and love to learn, so you'll catch me at all the grooming conventions and obviously Crufts every year! Animals are a huge part of my life and always have been, I'm so pleased I've managed to work my job around that. Being mobile is some groomer's worst nightmare, but I was brought up on camping holidays - so travelling light and packing up is second nature to me!
Why do you groom in the dog's home?
After years working in a busy salon, I realised there were so many dogs that really struggled with the salon grooming experience.
Every day there would be pups arriving for their appointment shaking with fear, really nervous and often reactive as a result. The thing is, the dogs had a good reason to be scared! Some of the more bulletproof pets can cope with the loud noises, the overwheming smells, the one-size-fits-all style of working, but I often thought how my anxious rescue dog Effie would hate that environment...
I got into this career because I love dogs. I worked hard to get my qualifications, to gain the knowledge and experience I needed to do this job safely and achieve the aesthetic result owners were after. After all that time, energy and money - 90% of my interactions at work were with dogs who saw me as their absolute nemesis!
This lead me to create Emily Rose Pet Grooming at Home. I wanted to feel like I was making a difference, transforming the necessity of regular grooming into the best possible experience it can be. I chose to remove ninety percent of the stressors from grooming and take the service to where dog's feel most comfortable and safe - in their own home. Some dogs will always hate having a bath (I think it might be built into their DNA!) but that inherent dislike doesn't have to be combined with fear, overstimulation and anxiety too.
After my first client, I knew I was on to something. Cal, a particularly nervous and reactive rescue dog, totally thrived in the space I created for him. He was in his safe place, his owner was close by, it was a completely unthreatening environment and a stress-free experience for both of us.
If you think a gentle, personalised (and let's face it, entirely more convenient!) approach to grooming might be the right fit for you and your pet, I would be so happy to help!
